National Minimum Wage rates


From 1st April 2024:

  • £11.44 an hour for workers aged 21 and over.
  • £8.60 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20.
  • £6.40 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17.
  • £6.40 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.
  • £9.99 per day Accommodation Offset.


From 1st April 2023:

  • £10.42 an hour for workers aged 23 and over
  • £10.18 an hour for workers aged 21 to 22
  • £7.49 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £5.28 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £5.28 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.
  • £9.10 per day Accommodation Offset


From 1st April 2022:

  • £9.50 an hour for workers aged 23 and over
  • £9.18 an hour for workers aged 21 to 22
  • £6.83 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £4.81 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £4.81 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.


From 1st April 2021:

  • £8.91 an hour for workers aged 23 and over
  • £8.36 an hour for workers aged 21 to 22
  • £6.56 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £4.62 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £4.30 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.


From 1st April 2020:

  • £8.72 an hour for workers aged 25 and over
  • £8.20 an hour for workers aged 21 to 24
  • £6.45 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £4.55 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £4.15 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.
  • £8.20 per day Accommodation Offset


From 1st April 2019:

  • £8.21 an hour for workers aged 25 and over
  • £7.70 an hour for workers aged 21 to 24
  • £6.15 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £4.35 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £3.90 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.


From 1st April 2018:

  • £7.83 an hour for workers aged 25 and over
  • £7.38 an hour for workers aged 21 to 24
  • £5.90 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £4.20 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £3.70 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.


From 1st April 2017:

  • £7.50 an hour for workers aged 25 and over
  • £7.05 an hour for workers aged 21 to 24
  • £5.60 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £4.05 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £3.50 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.


From 1st October 2016:

  • £6.95 an hour for workers aged 21 to 24
  • £5.55 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £4.00 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £3.40 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.


From 1st April 2016:

  • £7.20 an hour for workers aged 25 and over: National Living Wage


From 1st October 2015 to 30th September 2016:

  • £6.70 an hour for workers aged 21 and over
  • £5.30 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £3.87 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £3.30 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.


From 1st October 2014 to 30th September 2015:

  • £6.50 an hour for workers aged 21 and over
  • £5.13 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £3.79 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £2.73 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.
  • £5.08 per day Accommodation Offset

From 1st October 2013 to 30th September 2014:

  • £6.31 an hour for workers aged 21 and over
  • £5.03 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £3.72 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £2.68 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.
  • £4.91 per day Accommodation Offset

From 1st October 2012 to 30th September 2013:

  • £6.19 an hour for workers aged 21 and over
  • £4.98 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £3.68 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £2.65 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.


From 1st October 2011 to 30th September 2012:

  • £6.08 an hour for workers aged 21 and over
  • £4.98 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £3.68 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £2.60 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.


From 1st October 2010 to 30th September 2011

  • £5.93 an hour for workers aged 21 and over
  • £4.92 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £3.64 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
  • £2.50 - the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship

From 1st October 2009 To 30th Septemper 2010

  • £5.80 - main rate for workers aged 22 and over 
  • £4.83 - the 18-21 rate
  • £3.57 - the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18
