Real Time Information

Real Time Information (RTI) is the system that is used to send information about EVERY payroll payment to HMRC

This will become compulsory from 6th April 2013

FPS   Full Payment Submission
EPS   Employer Payment Summary
FPS   Adjustment
FFPS First Full Payment Submission
EAS   Employer Alignment Submission

Overview
After you have updated the payrun you need to send the FPS from the RTI menu.
This needs to be done 'on or before' the date the payment is made.
At the end of the month / quarter you need to send the EPS if there is any Statutory Payments recovered.

Cleanse your data first
For each employee you need:
Full name: do not use nicknames ie Dave instead of David.
Date of Birth: Try to get this verified against another document.
National Insurance Number:
Gender:
Address: The first two lines are compulsory, note that Post Code is only used for a UK address.

Setting up RTI
In Employer/Employer Details enter the Invitation date.
From 6th April 13 this will default to 6/4/13 so there is no need to do anything.

Employer Alignment Submission EAS.
You will normally be asked to send this if you have over 250 employees, otherwise you do not have to send it.
This is only sent once.
Currently you need to tick the box when you have done it, this will prevent you from sending it again.
RTI/EAS

Doing the first submission FFPS.
This is needed to allow HMRC to align their records to yours.
This should now only be needed for a new employer.
The First Full Payment Submission includes everyone on the payroll whether or not they are actually getting paid.
For instance employers who have both weekly and monthly staff and are starting the RTI in april 13 will be sending this report after they have done the first weekly wages, the report will also have included in it all the monthly employee details.
This is only sent once, it is not sent yearly
RTI/FFPS

Full Payment Submission FPS.
This is sent for each and every payrun.
Please note that for those who have different payment frequencies, say Weekly & Monthly, then when both pay frequencies have the same pay date ,ie Friday 31st May, the FPS should be sent AFTER you have done both payruns.
RTI/FPS

Employer Payment Summary EPS.
You send this Monthly/Quarterly when you have claimed back statutory payments you have made ie SSP,SMP,SPP,SAP, NIC Holiday, CIS Suffered.
HMRC already knows how much Tax, NIC & Student Loan Deductions are due, you send the report if you are claiming back payments you have had to pay out.
RTI/EPS

FPS Adjustment.
This allows you to make an amendment to a FPS you have already sent.
It is normally easier to make any alteration in the next payrun.
